I wanted a larger drive to store my videos, photos and music. I chose the Iomega based on reviews on here and another site, but Amazon had free shipping which saved $8. This isn't the cheapest drive, but it's well-designed and trustworthy. My WD MyBook 240GB failed with a USB connection error. I changed the USB cable, changed computer etc. and spoke with tech support. The only remedy was to send it to data recovery for $300 so I put it aside. When my Iomega arrived I tried the WD again and it worked!? Why would I ever trust this drive again? Get Iomega before it's too late :)
This comes ready for Macs, but I formatted it for a PC and it's fine. It took my a while to find how to do this with Windows XP.

The first one of these I got was as described by others - it looked used. There were scrateches on the case, and it was missing both cables and the CD-ROM. I returned it to Amazon with no trouble and got a second one. This one looked new.
It set up perfectly easily, and worked fine - except for one problem. It doesn't power down automatically. The feature, which makies the drive turn off when you turn off your computer is one key reason I bought it. If the drive doesn;t power down, then it spins all the time, stays hot and eventually crashes, destroying the data on the drive. Check this post on Iomega's website for more -[...]
In short, get a LaCie Quadra 1TB drive if you want firewire, or a LaCie Rugged 1TB USB/eSata if you want USB. Both will power down as advertised.

It was extremely easy to setup the drive. Just plugged it in and it was Mac formated and found by the OS. It has been running 24/7 since I purchased (only a few weeks now), but is quiet, not terribly hot, and functioning as intended.
