Asus ASUS CM5671-05 Review by Garmin User "RD" (Alaska)

My old desktop died and I, having had very good experience otherwise with Asus, decided to try this refurb.

The computer looks new and runs well. I am not a Windows fan, but Win 7 works. The computer has decent audio and video for my purposes. I do sound-card based digital signal processing, but if I decide to use this computer for DSP it will get a different sound card or widget as would any other computer. The office chores, for which this computer is used, are well managed.

I have attempted to install XP on this computer. While the installation is fine, the hardware simply lacks drivers for XP for such significant aspects as audio and video. For my older Palm synch chores, however, it works. I can get around these problems, but Win 7 seems to work. Vista left me not trusting Microsoft "development" much. Actually, the computer will spend most of its time running Linux, as I have gradually moved most of my operations to that system.

For the price, I am truly delighted. It's a little noisy, but I am a little deaf. It has a Seagate drive, but I have good backup. Let's see if I get five years out of this one as I did with my older Sony.

Why five stars if it isn't perfect? Well, it is about perfect, and I have built some from the ground up to my exact specs and needs which still need tweaking and fiddling. This is a good deal - a five star deal. If you get one with a scratched case or some other minor defect knock off a star if it makes you feel better.

I finally gave my 7years old desktop to my 5 and 9 years old kids to play.
I needed computer that just make DVD burn which I can't do. In my net book or iPad.
Now days I do most of things with net book and iPad or iPhone.
This is great computer so quiet I can't tell it's running.
On description I guess I misunderstand I thought I was getting 2 DVD burner but that fact is just one with 2 DVD bay.
I like the usb port and card reader on top for it's easy access.

Making recovery disk was easy it will tell you to make it how after initial setup.
They will not send any paper manual and document you just need to download PDF file from website.
I love the price for what I am getting.
